Adult Acting Workshops with Galore Theatre

Galore Theatre Company are bringing a series of Adult Acting Workshops to The Flavel this spring/summer.

‘Galore Theatre Company is a vibrant, community-focused theatre group based in South Devon, working with both young people and adult actors across a range of projects and performances. Alongside our thriving youth theatre, we are really keen to create opportunities for adults to explore acting in a supportive environment.

Our adult workshops are designed for anyone aged 18+ who is curious about acting - whether you’re completely new or returning after time away. Sessions are relaxed and friendly, focusing on building confidence, developing skills and technique and enjoying the process without pressure.

Over six weeks, participants will explore character, voice, movement and simple scene work through engaging, accessible exercises, learning at their own pace while gaining a solid foundation in performance.

Each workshop will end with an optional showcase performance, offering the chance to share what’s been developed’.

Dartmouth Wartime Sounds

Dartmouth's Wartime Sounds

A spectacular live musical telling Dartmouth's wartime story

From the creative Dartmouth team behind the acclaimed Dartmouth in the Jazz Age (2025) comes a brand-new live show celebrating the music, memories and extraordinary true stories of a town at the heart of the Second World War.

Through unforgettable songs, spectacular dancing and stunning archive film and photographs from Dartmouth Museum, Dartmouth's Wartime Sounds recreates the atmosphere of a community transformed by war – from the uncertainty of 1939 to the excitement of swing-filled dance halls, the arrival of thousands of American servicemen, and the build-up to D-Day.

A night of music, dance and storytelling

An outstanding eight-piece live band, featuring the wonderful Louise Parker on vocals, performs the songs that kept spirits alive during the war, while Jenny Thomas's acclaimed Lindy Hop and Swing dancers bring the dance floor roaring back to life.

Enjoy timeless classics including: The White Cliffs of Dover, Lili Marlene, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Bei Mir Bist Du Schön, You Are My Sunshine, Stormy Weather, In the Mood, Sing, Sing, Sing, We'll Meet Again

Experience wartime Dartmouth

This is far more than a concert. It's an immersive journey into wartime Dartmouth, where music, dance, archive film, photographs and live narration combine to recreate the sights, sounds and emotions of a remarkable period in the town's history.

Discover how local families, sailors, Wrens, American servicemen and evacuees experienced wartime Dartmouth—and how music helped them laugh, dance, hope and carry on through the darkest years.

Join the atmosphere

Guests are warmly encouraged to wear 1940s dress to help recreate the spirit of wartime Dartmouth. Whether you come in full vintage costume or simply with a hat, tie or floral dress, you'll be helping bring the town's history back to life.

Come for the music. Stay for the story. Leave with the soundtrack of wartime Dartmouth in your ears

David Byrne’s American Utopia (12)

SPIKE LEE DOCUMENTS THE FORMER TALKING HEADS FRONTMAN’S BRILLIANT, TIMELY 2019 BROADWAY SHOW, BASED ON HIS RECENT ALBUM AND TOUR OF THE SAME NAME.

‘Do we get stupider as we grow up?’ In his wildly popular Broadway show American Utopia, David Byrne reflects on human connections, life and how on earth we work through it. He joins the dots with his music and it all starts making sense.

Spike Lee here transforms the production into immersive, dynamic cinema that radiates with astounding performances, inventive contemporary dance and political urgency. American Utopia flows like an iridescent dream vision. Work by James Baldwin, Janelle Monáe and Kurt Schwitters is highlighted among exhilarating renditions of Byrne’s solo work, as well as Talking Heads classics. According to the multi-hyphenate, we love looking at humans more than anything else. Anti-fascist and anti-racist, Byrne illuminates our responsibility to care for one another as he and his co-performers burn down the house.

Savage House (15)

Set against the backdrop of 18th century England, a massive Pox outbreak, and Jacobite Uprising - this is a timely and darkly satirical story of Sir Chauncey Savage (Grant) and Lady Savage’s (Foy) blind pursuit of a better life. It is not without a tinge of irony that their family name is the Savages, for this is a Savage House indeed. Filled with duels, decadence, and bloodshed, this is a madcap play on class and power.

Richard E. Grant, Claire Foy, Jack Farthing, Bel Powley, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Richard McCabe, Vicki Pepperdine, Pip Torrens
