500 MILES is a poetic, life-affirming road movie and celebration of the human spirit that follows a broken family who are forced to come together when two young brothers run away from home.
While their fighting parents (Clare Dunne & Michael Socha) tear their hair out with worry, runaways Finn (Roman Griffin Davis) and his live-wire younger brother Charlie (Dexter Sol Ansell) embark on an epic adventure from Yorkshire, over land and sea, to the Wild West coast of Ireland. With the free-spirited busker Cate (Maisie Williams) helping the young boys along the way, their destination is Dingle, County Kerry, and their estranged, beloved Grandfather (BAFTA-award winner Bill Nighy), who their parents haven’t spoken to since the fateful events of the previous summer.
Directed by BAFTA-winner Morgan Matthews and written by Malcolm Campbell, this powerful adaptation of Mark Lowery’s acclaimed book Charlie and Me: 421 Miles from Home is produced by New Origin, Port Pictures and Minnow Films. Produced by David M. Thompson, Alexander Gordon, Martina Niland and Keren Misgav Ristvedt, and with music from Jamie Duffy, 500 MILES stars Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Living) alongside Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit), Dexter Sol Ansell (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), Clare Dunne (Herself, Kin), Michael Socha (This is England) and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones).

Cally Beaton: Namaste Motherf*ckers
*Now a Sunday Times best seller*
Namaste Motherf*ckers is the new show from Cally Beaton (QI, Live at the Apollo) - a quick-witted, unexpected and unapologetic insight into life in midlife. Combining Cally’s comedic and storytelling prowess with extracts from her provocative, stereotype-busting book of the same name, the show has at its heart her own story of radical reinvention – taking her from meetings in boardrooms to treading the boards, thanks to a chance conversation with the late, great Joan Rivers.
A funny show about a deadly serious subject, Namaste Motherf*ckers is a celebration of and for the female of the species. Invisible no more. The show celebrated an Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025 sell-out, and it will include a Q&A and meet-and-greet with Cally (who knows, Jeff the wonder dog may even be there too).
'Sprightly wit and considerable storytelling prowess', 4**** The Scotsman
'Original and clever', 4**** The Arts Desk – pick of the Edinburgh Fringe
'Gripping, perceptive and uplifting', Chortle

This session is designed to take the fear and confusion out of life’s more difficult legal subjects. We’ll demystify wills, lasting powers of attorney, probate, inheritance tax, and care costs — breaking down complex rules into plain English. You’ll learn how each of these areas can directly affect you, your family, and your financial future, and gain practical insight into the key things you need to consider before making important decisions.
Unlike last year, we’ve built in much more time for questions and answers, so you can put your own situation to a real solicitor and get the answers you actually care about. There will also be more solicitors in the room, giving you the chance to have smaller, more personal conversations on the day. On top of that, we’ll cover what’s changed in the law recently, and what changes are on the horizon, so you leave feeling up to date.
During the session, there will be a 30 min coffee break with pastries and at the end at 1pm there will be a light complimentary buffet lunch and an informal opportunity to chat to the solicitors.

Dartmouth’s Wartime Sounds
The songs that carried them through
From the team that brought you Dartmouth in the Jazz Age (2025), this brand-new live show returns to The Flavel with an unforgettable, immersive night of music and dance — bringing wartime Dartmouth to life through the sounds people actually sang, played and danced to when the town was at the heart of the action.
On stage, a powerhouse live band and a sensational lindy hop/jitterbug dance troupe recreate everything from pub-chorus singalongs and smoky late-night blues to big-band swing that lifts the roof. Expect irresistible classics such as You Are My Sunshine, Stormy Weather, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, In the Mood, Sing, Sing, Sing, and a rousing finale with We’ll Meet Again — performed as a thrilling journey of mood and momentum, from early-war uncertainty to the full roar of the swing era.
This is live entertainment at its best: music-first, dance-driven, and packed with atmosphere. The venue becomes a wartime world — with the sense of a town under blackout that still found ways to laugh, dance, and keep going. Threads of Dartmouth’s real story are woven in lightly and powerfully: the harbour, the boats, the arrivals and departures, the waiting, the work, and the nights when a song could make everything feel possible again.
Come ready to sing along to the songs you know — and to cheer on Jenny “Strictly” Thomas’s dance troupe as they premiere their brand-new routines, bringing the swing, jitterbug and wartime dancehall energy roaring back to life.
Come for the swing. Stay for the story. Leave with the soundtrack of wartime Dartmouth in your ears.

SPIKE LEE DOCUMENTS THE FORMER TALKING HEADS FRONTMAN’S BRILLIANT, TIMELY 2019 BROADWAY SHOW, BASED ON HIS RECENT ALBUM AND TOUR OF THE SAME NAME.
‘Do we get stupider as we grow up?’ In his wildly popular Broadway show American Utopia, David Byrne reflects on human connections, life and how on earth we work through it. He joins the dots with his music and it all starts making sense.
Spike Lee here transforms the production into immersive, dynamic cinema that radiates with astounding performances, inventive contemporary dance and political urgency. American Utopia flows like an iridescent dream vision. Work by James Baldwin, Janelle Monáe and Kurt Schwitters is highlighted among exhilarating renditions of Byrne’s solo work, as well as Talking Heads classics. According to the multi-hyphenate, we love looking at humans more than anything else. Anti-fascist and anti-racist, Byrne illuminates our responsibility to care for one another as he and his co-performers burn down the house.

When a lovesick musician is given the wrong number for his dream girl, he teams up with a driven psychology student to find her. Together, they spark a hilarious campus-wide frenzy that tests their own hearts and ambitions along the way.
A talk and documentary film that records the memories of some of those who worked for Philip & Son over the last century. Based at Nos and Sandquay shipyards on the River Dart, Philips & Son were world famous for producing some of the finest boats and ships in Britain. Some still in service today. After WW1, Philip & Son developed a reputation for producing high quality, powerful, seagoing tugs, and cornered the market for Lightships for Trinity House. During WW2 600 workers across both Nos and Sandquay produced over 200 ships and boats for the MOD, playing a critical role in production of ships like Harbour Boom Vessels for Coastal Forces. Models of some of the ships made at Philips & Son will be displayed.

Is Britain stuck in a doom loop of higher debt and higher taxes? Or can we fix the
British economy?
In Can We Be Rich Again? Jeremy Hunt argues that getting out of Britain’s low
growth is a solvable problem, and that we should approach the country’s economic
future with optimism.
Hunt asks the key questions: How deliverable are the changes we need by a Labour,
Conservative or Reform government? How do we get the economy growing despite
dangerous levels of debt? How do we sell long term reforms when our leaders have
so little political capital? But countering pessimism needs solutions not just
assertions, and they need to be realistic – plans that politicians can actually deliver in
a democratic system and the majority of the electorate can get behind.
Jeremy Hunt was elected Conservative MP for South West
Surrey in 2005. He was first appointed Secretary of State for
Health in September 2012, then served as Secretary of State for
Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs from July 2018 to July 2019, and Chancellor of
the Exchequer from October 2022 to July 2024. Before his election as an MP, Jeremy
ran his own educational publishing business, Hotcourses. He also set up a charity to
help AIDS orphans in Africa in which he continues to play an active role. Jeremy
lives in Godalming and London with his wife, son and two daughters.
Jeremy Hunt will be interviewed by John Suchet.

When the flamboyant Henry Paget arrives in 1890s North Wales to claim his aristocratic inheritance, his theatrical flair and defiant eccentricities send shockwaves through the upper-
class elite, much to the amusement of the local townspeople.
Alongside his spirited cousin Lily and loyal butler Gelert, Henry tries to carve out his own identity as the Fifth Marquess, navigating suffocating traditions, scheming relatives, and the long shadow cast by his estranged father.
Inspired by a true story, this riotous, uncompromising celebration of otherness, is led fearlessly by rising star and BAFTA nominee Callum Scott Howells (It’s a Sin, The Beautiful Game), joined by a stellar supporting cast of three-time BAFTA nominee Rupert Everett (The Happy Prince, An Ideal Husband), Ruby Stokes (Jay Kelly, Bridgerton), BAFTA winner Siobhán McSweeney (Derry Girls, Alice Through the Looking Glass), Louis Hynes (A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Great),
Louise Brealey (Sherlock, Brian and Charles), Tom Rhys Harries (White Lines, The Gentlemen)
and Paul Rhys (Wuthering Heights, Saltburn).

Join poetry legend Michael Rosen as he presents his new one-person show Getting Through It, formed of a double bill of monologues, The Death of Eddie and Many Kinds of Love.
Getting Through It is a powerful, deeply personal yet universally relatable, double bill of monologues and poetry.
In the first part, The Death of Eddie, Michael explores his experience after losing his 18-year-old son to meningitis, recalling the strange and contradictory mix of emotions felt after the unexpected loss. This story, memorably captured in Michael’s children’s book The Sad Book, is told in vivid and poetic detail.
In the second part, Many Kinds of Love, Michael recounts his 48-day period in intensive care, after contracting COVID-19 early in the pandemic, and having to face his own mortality. Both stories are told with Michael’s signature positivity, humour and poetry. Together, the two pieces are a testimony to the spirit of recovery.

The story of the force they created, and the great raids they undertook (some of which were launched from Dartmouth), is told in his new book “Churchill's Killing House”.
Signed copies will be available on the night.
Monty is a former Royal Marines officer, best known for his three hugely popular BBC series ‘Great Escapes’, where he lived on the west coasts of Scotland and Ireland with his dog Reuben. Monty went on to present the multi-award-winning BBC series "Great Barrier Reef" and "The Fisherman’s Apprentice" again for the BBC, as well as series for Discovery and Channel 5.

OUR LAND
In England, a growing movement is pushing back against the fences that divide people from nature. Through bold mass trespasses, Right to Roam activists demand greater access to the countryside — but in doing so, they collide head-on with landowners who insist they are the true guardians of the land.
OUR LAND explores this clash with nuance and clarity. Weaving together past and present, it lays out the deep-rooted tensions between public access, private ownership and environmental stewardship. Voices from both sides are given space to speak: campaigners fighting for freedom to roam, and landowners defending their vision of protection and responsibility. As the struggle over who gets to enjoy — and care for — the natural world grows ever more urgent, the film poses a fundamental question: who does the land really belong to?
From beloved, bestselling author Patrick Gale comes a searing portrayal of escape and the power of love, home and a family.
Love Lane is a brilliant new standalone novel featuring characters from Patrick’s Costa-shortlisted novel A Place Called Winter.
1950s Northern England. Three generations of men, two of women.
When veteran Canadian wheat farmer, Harry Cane is brutally obliged to sell up and sail home to an England transformed by two world wars, his arrival triggers unwelcome self-examination for the family he abandoned, and for whom he has never been more than a distant myth.
His daughter feels duty bound to take him in but is riven with doubt and ambushed by a long-buried anger she has never before expressed. Harry's effect on the next generation is less predictable and enables his granddaughter to deal with an unspeakable trauma, while her gentle husband feels seen for who he truly is. Can Harry stay and make a new life before
it's too late, or will he find himself cast out again, punished for having witnessed and understood too much?
From the rural plains of Canada to 1950s Liverpool and Yorkshire, Love Lane is a searing
portrayal of escape and entrapment, and a powerful exploration of what home and family
can really be.
Patrick Gale was born on the Isle of Wight. He spent his infancy at Wandsworth Prison, which his father governed, then grew up in Winchester before going to Oxford University. He now lives on a farm near Land's End. One of this country's best-loved
novelists, his most recent works are A Perfectly Good Man, the Richard and Judy bestseller Notes From An Exhibition, the Costa-shortlisted A Place Called Winter and Mother's Boy. His original BBC television drama, Man In An Orange Shirt, was shown to great acclaim in 2017 as part of the BBC's Queer Britannia series, leading viewers around the world to discover his novels.
Love Lane has been selected for this year’s Book Festival Big Read

Peter Knight’s Gigspanner Trio
"There’s something of the proverbial elder statesman about Peter Knight, in terms of his place in music, which cannot be overstated. It’s not just in the quality of his playing...there’s a focus on the sheer inventiveness of Peter’s playing, in the adventurous arrangements he shares with his collaborators, and in his musical leadership” Northern Sky Magazine
Since his inaugural performance with the fledgling Steeleye Span in 1970, Peter Knight has been a mainstay of the British folk scene. Never one to rest on his laurels, Peter has carved a reputation as a relentlessly questing musician “as mercurial as quicksilver”, and it is never quite so apparent as in his work with the various Gigspanner line-ups.
The Gigspanner Trio is the beating heart from which all other lineups have evolved, and the one most loved by many for the intimacy and joy manifest in their virtuosic performances. Audiences revel in the opportunity to witness ‘up close and personal’ the almost telepathic communication that exists between Peter, guitarist Roger Flack and hand percussionist, Sacha Trochet.
Described by Folk Radio UK as one of the “most quietly brilliant sets of musicians in the folk world and beyond”, they take self-penned material along with music rooted in the British Isles and beyond, and with the flick of a bow, a finely chosen chord or slip of a beat, produce richly atmospheric arrangements “with notes seemingly plucked from the stars and rhythms from the equator” (Spiral Earth).
“Music of intelligently crafted brilliance” 5***** Songlines Magazine
“Some of the most beautiful music the genre has to offer” 5***** Maverick Magazine

The Royal Opera present COSÌ FAN TUTTE
Spurred on by a bet, two young men hatch a plan to test the fidelity of their girlfriends. What follows is a slippery game of seduction and power, the four lovers plunging into a dizzying world of shifting reality, where truth becomes increasingly unstable. Così fan tutte has lost none of its sting since it first scandalised audiences in 1790. In her Main Stage debut, Netia Jones, Associate Director of The Royal Opera, reimagines Mozart’s comedy of manners through a sharp contemporary lens, where 18th-century romantic trickery meets deeply satirical high-tech deceit. Taking on the roles of the lovers is an exciting young cast led by Louise Alder, Simone McIntosh, Mingjie Lei and Huw Montague Rendall, with Gerald Finley as their manipulative game-master Don Alfonso and Emily Pogorelc as Despina. Thomas Hengelbrock conducts, bringing out the exquisite melodies that underpin the provocative, and resolutely modern, themes at the heart of the opera.

Twenty years after making their iconic turns as Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel—Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return to the fashionable streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway Magazine in 20th Century Studios’ “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2006 phenomenon that defined a generation.
The film is directed by David Frankel, written by Aline Brosh McKenna, produced by Wendy Finerman, and executive produced by Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt and Aline Brosh McKenna.
Performance
Following the 1924 expedition to Mount Everest which ended so tragically with the death of George Mallory and Sandy Irvine, The Epic of Everest, was released; an extraordinary silent film which documented both the climb and some of the earliest moving images from Tibet. IN 1924 the film was presented in the UK and Europe with a group of Tibetan monks who performed a prologue to the screenings featuring dance and Tantric music.
Join us here at the Flavel for a unique evening featuring Monks from the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery who will present a live dance performance then an introduction to ‘The Epic of Everest’ film followed by the screening of the film (87 minutes) including a Prologue and Blessing by the monks as was done 100 years ago when the film was originally shown.
Expect mesmerising chants of Buddhist texts to swirling costumed masked dances accompanied by ancient Tantric musical instruments: horns made from human leg bones, skull-drums, cymbals, bells and the great dungchen (long horns), as the monks evoke the atmosphere of sacred Tibet offering an experience of an ancient, endangered culture.

SIMON YATES OF TOUCHING THE VOID - MY MOUNTAIN LIFE
A fascinating and humorous evening, acclaimed by both regular theatre patrons and outdoor enthusiasts alike!
On the remote Siula Grande in Peru in June 1985, mountaineer Simon Yates found himself in a desperately unenviable position. He was slowly being pulled off the mountain face by his injured partner, Joe Simpson, dangling on the rope 50 metres below. His decision to cut the rope saved both their lives in the epic of survival that followed and with the publication of the book ‘Touching The Void’, later film and stage play, both climbers became household names.
It was an experience that could have put many off the sport of mountaineering - but not Simon. Over 35 years later, he is still a very active exploratory climber and guide, making several expeditions to the mountains each year. From the Arctic to the Antarctic, Alaska to Central Asia there is hardly a significant range that he has not visited.
Come along and witness Simon’s tireless journey from that mountain in Peru to some of the remotest on the planet and share with him the drama, excitement and beauty of modern, lightweight alpinism. Told with wit, dry humour and lavishly illustrated with images and film collected on his great climbs.
“Simon is a totally engaging speaker, who both entertains and inspires.”

We are very excited to bring you a rare UK gig with the fine gentlemen from Hackensaw Boys!
The Hackensaw Boys are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their classic album ‘Love What You Do’ with an extensive European tour in 2025/26. They could have chosen any album from their deep catalogue, but ‘Love What You Do’ stands out as a fan and band favourite. This album, with its unique blend of bluegrass, punk, and folk, is a true monument to Americana.
‘Before string bands were a “thing” in popular culture, there was the Hackensaw Boys. Before The Avett Brothers were selling out arenas, before Mumford & Sons were becoming the biggest band in music in a given year, before everybody and their brother was growing a beard and wearing suspenders and playing in jug bands, the Hackensaw Boys were mixing bluegrass and old time music with a punk attitude, and reshaping what a modern old school string band could sound like’. — Saving Country Music.
You’ll find it impossible to sit still during this performance.

Bart Schrijver’s acclaimed drama follows former best friends and roommates Chris (Bart Harder) and Lluis (Carles Pulido), who meet up after a decade to hike Scotland’s West Highland Way and Cape Wrath Trail.
Having taken the same 350-mile walk in their youth, the pair hope to rekindle their once-strong friendship by spending 30 days together in the majestic, raw beauty of the Scottish Highlands.
But while Chris remains preoccupied with work and life back at home, Lluis is determined to finish the trail to prove he can still do it. Amidst the sweeping landscapes, harsh weather and chance encounters with other hikers, the solitude and silence of the trek force the pair to confront truths about themselves and their friendship – and find out what it truly means to stand still and listen.
Shot entirely on the route of the walk, and in chronological order, The North is a beautiful ode to friendship and the healing power of nature. It’s not only a poignant and powerful drama, but also perhaps the definitive hiking film, allowing us to take in the stunning majesty of the Highlands shoulder-to-shoulder with Lluis and Chris as they reconnect with each other and with nature.
Language: In English and Spanish and Dutch with English subtitles.

Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour Summer Season
Verdi’s Aida
In Aida, Verdi masterfully pits the intimate affairs of the heart against the grandeur of the universe: where kingdoms rise and fall and the sands of time grind onwards. There could be no grander setting for such an opera than Sydney Harbour itself, awash with the light of the city and the Sydney Opera House silhouetted against the setting sun.
