New Leader at the Flavel

The Flavel Trustees are delighted to confirm that they have appointed Michael Sells to be the Flavel’s new Head of Programming and Operations.

Michael has a wealth of experience in managing Arts Centre programmes, buildings and projects, some on a national scale.  The Trustees were particularly impressed by his ability to design programmes for audiences the Flavel is looking to develop.  Most recently, Michael had a successful season with a range of family entertainment, while working at Dartington.  He has also had extensive experience working with youth groups, including developing workshops and courses for young people to learn music and DJing skills.  The Flavel Forever business plan is ambitious and includes all parts of Dartmouth’s diverse community, and Michael has lead projects working with groups including children in schools, people in care-homes, as well as with those with no experience of the Arts.  As a writer and director himself, he has a passion for live theatre comedy and events, and so can also guide and support young emerging artists’ work.

Michael said, I am honoured to be taking on the responsibility for the Flavel in its 20th anniversary year, and I’m looking forward to working with the whole Flavel Family to ensure it remains at the heart of the local community and entertainment scene.  My priority is firstly the teams that deliver for us all: the staff and volunteers: I will be listening to their concerns and discussing their ideas for the future. I will also be meeting as many representatives and leaders within the community as I can, to see how the Flavel can give them what they are looking for.

Ian Downing, Chair said: Michael impressed us with his body of work for a wide range of communities and his experience of managing and delivering across a wide range of arts and entertainment.  On behalf of the Flavel team, I wish him a long and happy relationship with Dartmouth and the Flavel.
