FLOW (U)

When a flood of biblical proportions washes its home away, a solitary cat must seek refuge with a motley crew of animals, who gradually learn to get along in this endearing, Oscar-winning animation.

Wunderkind director Gints Zilbalodis has taken the animation world by storm with his beautifully crafted sophomore feature Flow, which has received a multitude of awards and nominations to date, including two nominations for both BAFTA and the Academy Awards.

The mystical world he creates in Flow is in peril. There are traces of human inhabitants, but they are now nowhere to be seen as water begins to flood the landscape.

The story begins following a small, solitary cat as the shoreline rises and the home where it once lived is submerged underwater. Forced to flee, he happens upon a refuge boat containing a calm and unperturbed Cabybarre who seems amenable to his presence, and the two begin a journey on the water towards higher ground.

Along the way they cross paths with a lemur, obsessed with collecting shiny objects, a boisterous and excitable dog and a stoic, mysterious secretary bird.

Together, as they traverse the landscape on their fable-like quest, the ragtag team of animals must learn to trust each other and work together to survive. Flow pushes the boundaries of animation, immersing audiences in a world before unseen.

Jane Austen Wrecked My Life (15)

Agathe, hopelessly clumsy yet charming, and full of contradictions, dreams of experiencing love akin to a Jane Austen novel. Instead she finds herself stuck in desperate singlehood, spending her days working in the legendary British bookshop, Shakespeare & Co in Paris, rather than pursuing her own ambitions of becoming a novelist. But when an unexpected invitation to the Jane Austen Writers' Residency in England lands in her lap, Agathe is in for an eye-opening and life-changing experience. Encouraged to confront her insecurities and explore her true romantic, sexual and creative nature, in part thanks to her eccentric co-residents, Agathe realises it’s time to stop wasting her sentimental life and take control - over both her writing aspirations, and her very own love story.

Starring Camille Rutherford (Anatomy of a Fall), Pablo Pauly (The French Dispatch) and Charlie Anson (Death on the Nile), Jane Austen Wrecked My Life is an uplifting and heart-warming throwback to classic romance, with a modern sensibility, marking the directorial debut of acclaimed screenwriter Laura Piani.

Lions Led by a Donkey – A Talk about the Falklands War

This is a fundraising event for Prickles in a Pickle – The Hedgehog Rescue Charity

Join us for an illustrated talk about the experiences of a young Paratroop officer during the Falklands War.

As the Veterans of D-Day are now too old to give talks about the momentous events they experienced 81 years ago, Peter Osborne, a veteran of the Falklands War has been asked on several occasions recently to talk about his experiences of that war.

Although a much smaller conflict, there is a nexus, with both having amphibious landings and close-quarter fighting. He has kindly agreed to come and tell us his story and will be donating his fee – all Proceeds go to Prickles in a Pickle Hedgehog Rescue Charity based in Stoke Fleming.

The bar will open at 6.15pm, the talk starts at 7pm for 1.5 hours, after which there will be a Q&A session and a chance to meet the speaker.

All proceeds from the talk will be match funded by The Fisher Trust, effectively doubling every pound. Your ticket purchase will help to protect and preserve the beautiful hedgehog population in the UK.

Wind, Tide & Oar (PG)

Wind, Tide & Oar is a compelling exploration of engineless sailing, shot on analogue film over three years. The film delves into the experiences of those who travel solely by harnessing the natural elements alone, following a diverse array of traditional boats and uncovering the unique rhythms and motivations of engineless navigation.

Journeying through rivers, coastlines, and open seas, spanning the UK, the Netherlands, and France, Wind, Tide & Oar creates a contemplative space, addressing themes of ecology, heritage, traditional skills, and maritime history. Using a 1960s hand-wound camera, Wahl offers a poetic and intimate perspective on a millennia-old craft, upended by the invention of mechanised power.
