Extreme athletes Omar Nour and Omar Samra accept the Talisker Atlantic Challenge, a 3,000-mile Atlantic Ocean crossing by rowboat with no assistance, and no stopping. Training and preparing for two years, they commit their adventure to the plight of displaced people crossing the Mediterranean with support from UNHCR and UNDP.

After a slow start and bad winds, sickness, and exhaustion, day 9 dawns in a gale, 600 miles from shore.  A rogue wave flips their boat and both men are in the water. With beacons failing, they wait and pray and struggle, fighting 45-knot winds, and riding 8-meter waves. For 13 hours, Nour and Samra face the same dangers and decisions of the desperate refugees to whom they dedicated their row. In this true-life adventure, survival demands a miracle or two.

Folk at The Flavel: Cara Dillon and Sam Lakeman

Cara Dillon, an extraordinary, multiple award-winning Irish folk singer, and acclaimed musician and producer Sam Lakeman, will captivate listeners once again with their exquisite and enthralling live performance. Every note and word sung with a passion and confidence earned through a life of experience singing traditional songs. Within it Cara effortlessly blurs the lines between spoken word and song to stunning effect, exploring profoundly personal memories, her native Co. ADAM DYER - ‘And all that Jazz Piano’

Adam Dyer and his wife Katerina Paul (violin) gave a very well received recital at the Flavel in 2017 and now Adam makes a welcome return to one of our ‘Happy Hour’ concerts to give a fascinating introduction to the history of the techniques and styles of jazz piano, including examples from Fats Waller, Erroll Garner, Keith Jarrett and many more.

Brought up as a teenager in Kingswear, Adam graduated from Christ’s College, Cambridge and, subsequently, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Having played classical music from the age of seven, he took to playing jazz piano in his mid-teens. Following his time at the Guildhall he gained a scholarship to study jazz in Scandinavia for two years. He now lives in London but often returns to Devon for holidays with his young family.

An exciting series of workshops exploring different approaches and techniques to create stunning artwork.

The workshops will focus on the use of colour, line, and texture using a variety of different starting points. We will work in a variety of different materials, including inks, pastels and mainly acrylic paints.

All abilities are welcome and attending a previous course is wonderful but not necessary.

The Concert Band of Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth will perform a selection of soundtracks from some of the most well known Heroes and Villains movies that have ever hit the Box Office!

These world recognised themes include soundtracks from Batman, Thunderbirds, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, The A-Team, James Bond, Stingray and many more! As ever, the Band will have a few surprises up their sleeves for you, so stand by for a thrilling evening of music and excitement.
