Dartmouth’s Wartime Sounds
The songs that carried them through
From the team that brought you Dartmouth in the Jazz Age (2025), this brand-new live show returns to The Flavel with an unforgettable, immersive night of music and dance — bringing wartime Dartmouth to life through the sounds people actually sang, played and danced to when the town was at the heart of the action.
On stage, a powerhouse live band and a sensational lindy hop/jitterbug dance troupe recreate everything from pub-chorus singalongs and smoky late-night blues to big-band swing that lifts the roof. Expect irresistible classics such as You Are My Sunshine, Stormy Weather, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, In the Mood, Sing, Sing, Sing, and a rousing finale with We’ll Meet Again — performed as a thrilling journey of mood and momentum, from early-war uncertainty to the full roar of the swing era.
This is live entertainment at its best: music-first, dance-driven, and packed with atmosphere. The venue becomes a wartime world — with the sense of a town under blackout that still found ways to laugh, dance, and keep going. Threads of Dartmouth’s real story are woven in lightly and powerfully: the harbour, the boats, the arrivals and departures, the waiting, the work, and the nights when a song could make everything feel possible again.
Come ready to sing along to the songs you know — and to cheer on Jenny “Strictly” Thomas’s dance troupe as they premiere their brand-new routines, bringing the swing, jitterbug and wartime dancehall energy roaring back to life.
Come for the swing. Stay for the story. Leave with the soundtrack of wartime Dartmouth in your ears.
