The Dawn of Impressionism: Paris, 1874
The Impressionists are the most popular group in art history - millions flock every year to marvel at their masterpieces. But, to begin with, they were scorned, penniless outsiders. 1874 was the year that changed everything; the first Impressionists, ‘hungry for independence’, broke the mould by holding their own exhibition outside official channels. Impressionism was born and the art world was changed forever.
What led to that first groundbreaking show 150 years ago? Who were the maverick personalities that wielded their brushes in such a radical and provocative way? The spectacular Musée d’Orsay exhibition brings fresh eyes to this extraordinary tale of passion and rebellion. The story is told not by historians and curators but in the words of those who witnessed the dawn of Impressionism: the artists, press and people of Paris, 1874.
See the show that changed everything on the big screen

'There’s something of the proverbial elder statesman about Peter Knight, in terms of his place in music, which cannot be overstated. It’s not just in the quality of his playing...there’s a focus on the sheer inventiveness of Peter’s playing, in the adventurous arrangements he shares with his collaborators, and in his musical leadership.'
Northern Sky Magazine
Since his inaugural performance with the fledgling Steeleye Span in 1970, Peter Knight has been a mainstay of the British folk scene. Never one to rest on his laurels, Peter has carved a reputation as a relentlessly questing musician 'as mercurial as quicksilver' (Simon Jones/fRoots), and it is never quite so apparent as in his work with the various Gigspanner line-ups.
In the wake of his departure from Steeleye Span, Peter turned his full attention to the Gigspanner Trio and established their reputation as one of the most genuinely ground-breaking forces on the British folk scene, inspiring Maverick magazine to write 'Gigspanner are pushing at the boundaries, and in the process are making some of the most beautiful music the genre has to offer' 5***** Maverick Magazine
Described by Folk Radio UK as one of the 'most quietly brilliant sets of musicians in the folk world and beyond', they take self-penned material along with music rooted in the British Isles and beyond, and with the flick of a bow, a finely chosen chord or slip of a beat, produce richly atmospheric arrangements 'with notes seemingly plucked from the stars and rhythms from the equator' (Spiral Earth).

Martin Turner ex Wishbone Ash Blowin’ Free Tour 2025
Celebrating the 55th anniversary of the formation of the original Wishbone Ash
Martin Turner and his band return to the concert stages during 2025 to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the formation of the original Wishbone Ash.
Wishbone Ash was formed by West Country musicians Martin Turner and Steve Upton, who arrived in London in 1969 to embark on their musical journey. Martin Turner envisaged the band’s innovative harmony-guitar hallmark and guitarists Ted Turner and Andy Powell were recruited via a now legendary Melody Maker advert. The partnership of the original line-up of Wishbone Ash forged a unique musical identity that would produce some of rock music's best loved works and influence numerous successful bands, resulting in millions of album sales and concert attendances. Wishbone Ash’s name would become synonymous with high quality, guitar-driven melodic rock music.
Many decades later, the music of the classic line-ups of Wishbone Ash continues to delight audiences worldwide through both live performances and a rich legacy of recorded work that continues to be enjoyed by fans old and new. Classic album releases such as Wishbone Ash, Argus, Pilgrimage, Wishbone Four, There’s the Rub, New England and Live Dates defined the Wishbone Ash sound and touched the hearts of several generations of music fans.
As lead vocalist, bassist and key creative force, founding original member Martin Turner was central to the critical and commercial success of Wishbone Ash’s most revered albums, with his passionate vocal delivery, songwriting ability, keen melodic sense and production values being major ingredients in the definitive Wishbone Ash sound. Martin continues to delight audiences with performances of the band’s best loved works with his current band.
The “Blowin’ Free” tour will feature music from the career-defining eras of Wishbone Ash, with a show consisting of classic tracks and stage favourites as well as much loved deeper album cuts, making it a show no true Wishbone Ash aficionado will want to miss.
