The final Folk at the Flavel concert of 2018 features superb folk guitarist and singer, John Smith.

John may have what is often said to be the most common name in the UK but he is a far from common musician and performer. Born in Essex and raised locally in Devon, John Smith has gained a reputation through relentless touring as one of the UK’s finest guitarists and singer-songwriters.

Once described by the legendary John Renbourn as the “future of folk music” his reputation now extends far beyond the UK folk scene, as reflected by sideman credits which include Joan Baez, David Gray and Lisa Hannigan. He has supported among others John Martyn and Gil Scott Heron and recently completed a tour with UK Indie favourites, Gomez. John has evolved his own blend of fingerstyle and slide techniques and his uniquely intimate take on love and loss combined with his innovative guitar work have won him a very loyal following.

John has also released five well received albums most recently “Headlong” in 2017. He has been described in a Time Out review as “Spellbinding” and as the “Guitarists Guitarist” in The Sunday Times
